How to choose between WordPress.org or WordPress.com

In the past many people have wondered whether WordPress.org or WordPress.com would be the best fit for their Business website or Blog. We have decided to review some of the important pros and cons that come with both options to help you make an informed decision.

WordPress.org

WordPress.org is the most customisable option out of the two. This version of WordPress is the best for users that would like to build their WordPress website through a third-party hosting provider (such as Koerge). Setting this up requires you to download the WordPress software yourself, purchase a domain name using a third party domain provider and manage it yourself. This whole process is a much more hands on approach and if you are not really technical it can be a bit of a challenge.

What makes WordPress.org so special is the fact that you will have full control and customisation abilities over your website. Although it comes with a lot more responsibility, installing WordPress themes, plugins, editing the websites code and managing the security by yourself is actually not as difficult as it sounds. There are a lot of WordPress plugins that make the process very easy and simple for you. Another reason why WordPress.org is favoured by many is the fact that it is completely free of charge (apart from the web hosting and domain costs).

WordPress.com

WordPress.com offers a lesser hand-on experience. WordPress.com offers to host your website for you and you do not need to manage a server, own a domain or download any software to install yourself. However if you do choose WordPress.com (the free version) you will have a website URL that looks like this yourwebsite.wordpress.com. That being said, you are allowed to upgrade your WordPress account and buy a custom domain.

WordPress.com is ideal for  users that are looking for a simple all in one solution to building a WordPress website. They pretty much do all the hard work for you. You wont have to manage a server, pay for web hosting or buy a domain name. There are also a number of different options when it comes to customising your website. Although it is not as flexible as WordPress.org there are still quite a few themes to choose from, however, you wont be able to install any custom themes or plugins. The premium version of WordPress.com does provide many features and allows more control but you will need to pay for that.
